“We all Deserve so Much More Out of Life” By Iya Abuzeid Ibrahim

I am a Sudanese who was born in the United States. It is because of Sudan that I have friends from all walks of life. I find myself being able to relate and connect to many different cultures because of Sudan’s own diverse culture. It is through these connections that I have been able to meet many from the migrant community, who support each other like family. I want people to understand the Sudanese youth in the U.S have hearts of gold. We take care of each other as conflicts take place back home, and anxiety sets in.

My father and little sister are trapped in Wad Madani. I lost contact with my father back in May 2023. I found out by word of mouth that he fell ill, but recovered the day RSF invaded Wad Madani. This is all I know. My father doesn’t have his phone anymore. My little sister has Down syndrome, and so I am extremely concerned. They both are very vulnerable in this environment, as everyone else is in Sudan. My father would never let me visit him even before what is occurring now due to political conflicts and being concerned for my safety. This is a reflection of how long Sudan has been working towards peace. I would love to just go home and be reunited with my family. It’s been our dream all our lives. I want to meet my sister. I want everyone to be safe. We all deserve so much more out of life
